The Great Belize Barrier Reef

Just a half mile from our beach lies the home of fragile corals, gem colored sponges and fish that look like fantasies. The entire system stretches from the Yucatan Peninsula to South America. More than 185 miles long, the reef system houses the greatest coral in the western hemisphere. Divers delight in coral reef walls and pinnacles. Three coral rings forming atolls, farther from the shore, offer more sea life.

Snorkel trips to our Belize reefsAmong the named places to visit underwater, one is Mata Rocks or Mata Cut! Most sections of the reef with very interesting formations or fish have been named, and there are dozens of them.

MATA CUT is a pass through the barrier reef, just a few miles north of Punta Arena Canyons. Remains of an old barge some call Changa's Wreck lies just inside the reef in less than 10 ft. of water. Beautiful soft corals and sponges cling to the barge frame giving it an aura of an underwater Rose Bowl parade float. Snappers have made their home in the remains of the hull. Nearby you may spot stingrays, starfish conches, triggerfish, parrotfish, trumpetfish, bluestriped grunts, blue tang and other incredibly colored tropical fish.

The Blue Hole, easily identifiable from the air, is one of the most popular and notable dive sites.

Much detail is available on the web about almost every dive location. Just search for the word "Belize" and the dive site name and you'll be sure to get lots of detailed results.

Don't miss our Belize Dive Packages! We offer stand-alone dive packages and dive packages including accommodations.

Caving
When you'd rather be underground than underwater, Belize's vast natural wonders include several cool and interesting caves. In western Belize -in the Cayo District- there are hundreds of caves. The newest jungle cave experience is at Actun Tunichil Muknal. Opened in 1989, it boasts a fine collection of artifacts. For a wild watery cave adventure, Caves Branch has guided tubing excursions. Some of the more popular caves to visit include Che Chem Ha, Rio Frio, St. Herman's, Barton Creek Cave, Cayo Blue Creek, Toledo Ben Loman's, and Manatee Lagoon. The mysteries and legends surrounding the caves and their place in the Mayan history continue to this day. You've lots to see caving Belize.
